Sheridan’s Accounting in Canada for Internationally Trained Accountantsis a program exclusively for foreign trained accountants holding a diploma or degree who have worked in accounting or a related fieldwishing to familiarize themselves with Canadian accounting practices. The program acknowledges the training you’ve received outside Canada and focuses on giving you the knowledge to work in the Canadian business environment. Accounting in Canada instruction covers:
- Up-to-date Canadian financial accounting practices
- Business communications
- Taxation and law
- Canadian culture and English language usage
If you need additional English language training before you feel ready to participate in the program, it is available free of charge through Sheridan’s English as a Second Language Program.
Convenient Delivery Format
Because many of our students are employed, the Accounting in Canada program will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and during the day on Saturday.
Professors who are both outstanding educators and well experienced in the Canadian business world teach the Accounting in Canada for Internationally Trained Accountants Program.
Your classes will include:
- Case study reviews
- Role playing focused on typical client encounters
- Guest speakers from the business community who are active in accounting
- Collaborative group activities
Optional Work Placement
If you wish, you can undertake a work placement in a small to mid-sized accounting firm following the two and one half term academic portion of the Accounting in Canada program. This approximately 10-week placement will give you valuable workplace experience in Canada.
The Accounting in Canada program is located at Skills Training Centre in Oakville.
Sheridan prepares you for career success. When you complete the Accounting in Canada for Internationally Trained Accountants Program, you will be qualified to hold intermediate accounting positions in the following types of Canadian organizations:
- Banks of all sizes
- Corporate accounting departments
- Government and public accounting offices
Program Eligibility
- Postsecondary diploma or degree in a related field and three years or related work experience
and/or
- Demonstrated competance through related work and/or educational experience
Applicant Selection
Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of previous academic achievement, and/or demonstrated experience. In some cases, applicants may be requested to submit a résumé, which includes details of related work experience, and a cover letter, which summarizes their career goals and reasons for wanting to take this program.
Postsecondary transcripts, indicating courses completed to date, must be submitted to ontariocolleges.ca at the time of application.
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program will be assessed and advised individually and may be considered for other, related programs.
